Description

Four new seats on the originals shelf and a fifth completed: 121 works and 473,084 lines, each in the language of its earliest surviving witness. The Ethiopian canon in Ge'ez, 104 works from Beta maṣāḥǝft's TEI (CC BY-SA 4.0): the Old Testament with Jubilees, the three books of Meqabyan, the Ethiopic Ezra and 4 Baruch, the New Testament, and the Sinodos canons, with R. H. Charles's Jubilees (1895) and Ascension of Isaiah (1900). The Kebra Nagast in Ge'ez. The Second Temple apocalypses and pseudepigrapha the shelf lacked, in the standard public-domain editions: the Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs (Charles, 1908), the Sibylline Oracles (Geffcken, 1902), 3 Baruch (James, 1897), the Greek Apocalypses of Moses and Esdras (Tischendorf, 1866), 4 Ezra (Violet, 1910), 2 Baruch in Syriac (Kmosko, 1907), the Slavonic Apocalypse of Abraham (Tichonravov, 1863), Hebrew Ben Sira from the Cairo Genizah (Schechter and Taylor, 1899), Aristeas (Wendland, 1900) and Joseph and Aseneth (Batiffol, 1889). Euclid: the Elements in Heiberg's Greek, with the Data, the Optics and the Phaenomena. And the Ge'ez text layer of 1 Enoch (EA-CORPORA-02/20), queued since August, now seated. The first of three seatings from one request; Mesoamerica, Egypt and Balaam follow in the twenty-first, the Hermetica, Mesopotamia, the Avesta and the Rig Veda in the twenty-second. What is not seated (2 Enoch's Slavonic, Bezold's Kebra Nagast, three books of the broader canon) is named.

Wiki Article

EA-CORPORA-20 seats four new collections on the archive's originals shelf and completes a fifth, each in the language of its earliest surviving witness: 121 works and about 473,000 lines. The Ethiopian canon is seated in Ge'ez from the TEI editions of Beta maṣāḥǝft (Universität Hamburg, CC BY-SA 4.0): 104 works, the Old Testament with the books the Ethiopian church alone keeps whole as scripture (Jubilees, the three books of Meqabyan, the Ethiopic Ezra, 4 Baruch), the New Testament, and the Sinodos canons, with R. H. Charles's editions of the Ethiopic Jubilees (1895) and the Ascension of Isaiah (1900) as scans. The Kebra Nagast, the Glory of the Kings, is seated whole in Ge'ez. The seat of 1 Enoch, opened in August with Charles's and Dillmann's editions as scans, receives the Ge'ez text layer it had queued. The Second Temple apocalypses and pseudepigrapha the shelf lacked are seated in the original language of each one's earliest witness, in the standard public-domain editions: the Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs and the Sibylline Oracles in Greek, 3 Baruch and the Greek apocalypses of Moses and Esdras, 4 Ezra in Latin with its eastern versions, 2 Baruch in Syriac, the Apocalypse of Abraham in Slavonic, Ben Sira in the Hebrew of the Cairo Genizah, the Letter of Aristeas, and Joseph and Aseneth. Euclid's Elements is seated in Heiberg's Greek, with the Data, the Optics and the Phaenomena. 2 Enoch, which survives only in Slavonic, is queued: the open editions found are translations. Each seat holds the files as fetched, scans where the page is the witness, one text per work, a provenance record with verified loci and a SHA-256 manifest, and has a spine and a card on the Training Layer Literature originals shelf. It is the first of three seatings from one request; Mesoamerica and Egypt follow in EA-CORPORA-21, the Hermetica, Mesopotamia, the Avesta and the Rig Veda in EA-CORPORA-22.

EA-CORPORA-20 — The Twentieth Seating

MANUS, 23 October 2026: "detour for an ea-corpora searing. lets see. whats available of mayan texts? and then i dont think we have much or any deteurocanonical second temple lit - all those apocalypses. and what about the ethiopian canon? and euclid. all in original language or as close to it as possible. what else?" — "and the Egyptian book of the dead" — "and what about the fragments of the book of baalim?" — "yes yes yes to all - what a meal."

Not seated, and why

How the seats were made

Sources located in Beta maṣāḥǝft's Works repository (cloned at commit 3550dc59 of 23 October 2026; every file measured for the Ethiopic characters in its edition division), on the Internet Archive (advanced search; item metadata read for access restriction, volume and files) and in the Perseus Digital Library (PerseusDL/canonical-greekLit at commit 0189b9c8). Each item's front matter read against the edition claimed for it. Every Internet Archive file checked against the md5 the Archive publishes for it; none differed. TEI reduced to plain text by code with chapter and verse kept; OCR layers seated as fetched, uncorrected, the scan as witness. Every file hashed into its seat's MANIFEST.sha256; every verified locus is a string found in the seated text by the builder, rebuild/corpora/ea-corpora-20/seat.py, from the specifications beside it. 121 works and 473,084 lines in four new seats, and 1,502 lines added to a fifth.
