A reading system encountered this line and did the following, in order. It recognized
the rhetorical inversion of the goat figure but lost the generic ground โ the
Isaiah structure โ that made the inversion intelligible. With the theological field
weakened, Zion lost its anchor and became recoverable as noise (a foreign word, a
place, a spice). With the cosmic beloved gone, kiss the bride became less probable
and cross the bridge more probable โ because bridge lives in the recovery and
