The reward of love is a short poem by Lee Sharks in the New Human 2 sequence. The registry mistakenly uses its opening phrase, “This thing destroyed me,” as the title. The canonical body title is The reward of love.
The poem speaks from aftermath: destruction beyond repair, the failure of words and future becoming, and a “wound-down regime” of diminishing returns. Its final repetition turns the expected reward of full and unaccountable love into the wound itself. The poem forms a diptych with #750, I would have loved you. The two movements should remain adjacent: one states the continuing promise of love, the other names what that love has yielded.
