Operative Feminism defines feminism as a methodological operator for identifying and interrupting the extraction of bearing cost from bodies.
The paper begins by rejecting a restitutive Joban frame in which suffering is ultimately repaid by a father-sovereign. Its alternative is witness without guaranteed restitution: reproductive, domestic, sexual, emotional, and semantic labor may sustain a world whose meaning and value accrue elsewhere.
Its central semiotic claim is that “woman” has historically functioned not only as an identity category but as an operation organizing bodies as substrate for other people’s meanings.
