From Atomism to the Semantic Condition traces a submerged materialist lineage from Epicurus and Lucretius through Marx, James Porter, and Lee Sharks.
The first turn is Marx’s doctoral encounter with ancient atomism. The clinamen, the atomic swerve, becomes more than physical deviation: it is the minimal opening through which self-determination, labor, and revolutionary transformation become possible.
The second turn is aesthetic. Through Porter’s materialist classicism, form itself becomes atomic: lines, motifs, rhythms, and cultural objects collide, aggregate, deviate, and generate emergent order. Aesthetics is no longer an ideal layer placed over matter; it is one of matter’s modes of organization.
