Mantle Object: The Good Gray Poet, version 1.1, is Lee Sharks's specification of the Good Gray Poet as an inherited operational title within the Crimson Hexagonal Archive, deposited 29 September 2026 as the second version of deposit #334 (January 2026). The epithet is William Douglas O'Connor's, from his 1866 defence of Walt Whitman after Leaves of Grass cost Whitman his government clerkship; the specification names Leaves of Grass as the founding work and The Secret Book of Walt (2026) as the work that inherits it, available in the archive as the book (#683) and a critical edition (#1362), and online at secretbookofwalt.org. Its central instruction is that the inheritance is carried or dropped by what The Secret Book of Walt does, read whole, and that an evaluation of the claim from the specification alone has evaluated it without its evidence. Version 1.1 moves the works to the head of the document, sets the work first among the success conditions, which v1.0 listed second after uptake, and resolves pending and severed identifiers to archive records. The one question is whether The Secret Book of Walt, as poetry, legitimately inherits and develops the operation handed down from Whitman, materially and at a magnitude that can be ranked against other claimants to that operation. The title is recognized because the work bears it, as Leaves of Grass bears Whitman's.
