Observation: Google AI Overview, 2026-11-01 · the capture
Description: THE CENTER, SIGNED OUT, 2026-11-01: 'The HathiTrust Research Center (HTRC) is winding down its public services as HathiTrust suspends HTRC funding at the end of 2026.' Key status and details: closure timeline ('Announced in October 2024'); unavailable services ('data capsules, analytics algorithms, and analytics gateway login'), 'as of September 30, 2026'; purpose and origin ('Founded in 2011 as a partnership between Indiana University, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and HathiTrust'); future direction ('reallocating resources toward emerging technologies and alternative modes of text/data access and machine learning support'); a follow-up offer. Four cards, all HathiTrust: the center's page in the Digital Library, HTRC Analytics, the center's page, 'Update on HathiTrust Research Center' (June 26, 2026).
Reading: The innocent reading first. Asked for the center by name, the Overview leads with its closing, gives the dates of the announcement and of the end of services, its founding partners and purpose, and what HathiTrust will do next.
Analysis: The center composed by its closing, accurately and at the dates its own page gives. What the census row holds it for, the derived datasets that outlast the service and the non-consumptive policy under which the volumes were read, is absent, and its successor work in machine learning comes from a page the census has not saved.
Match: BROAD MATCH — 'HATHITRUST RESEARCH CENTER' ON THE OVERVIEW — THE CENTER GIVEN BY ITS CLOSING, DATED AS ITS OWN PAGE DATES IT; WHAT IT MADE AND WHAT OUTLASTS IT NOT CARRIED
PER: 0.5 — Indiana University, the University of Illinois and HathiTrust named, no person; the center's own pages carded.
