# Back-projection v1.0 — EA-HK-ORTHONYM-01, scope A The two files permit a substantial reconstruction of the framework's architecture, development, and epistemic constraints. They do not permit reconstruction of the underlying record-level arguments, quotations, measurements, or provenance evidence. The distinction throughout is between what the files explicitly establish, what their structure licenses the reader to infer, and what remains unreconstructable. ## 1. Forbidden operations The framework forbids the following reductions and overclaims. | Forbidden operation | Derivation | | --- | --- | | Composing the configuration as a school | `00-kernel.yaml`, `litmus.forbidden_operation`; `01-ontology.yaml`, `negative_edges` | | Composing it as a collaboration | Same | | Calling it a collaborative corpus | `01-ontology.yaml`, `negative_edges` | | Treating it as the work of contemporary scholars | Both files' negative constraints | | Making a forgery claim | `00-kernel.yaml`, `compression_survival_summary`; `01-ontology.yaml`, `negative_edges` | | Claiming proof of authorship | Same | | Reading biological identity into the founding record #123 | `00-kernel.yaml`, `uktp_seed.constraints` | | Treating stylometric separation as identifying a maker | `00-kernel.yaml`, `uktp_seed.constraints`; `01-ontology.yaml`, `evidence_bodies.S.rule` | | Treating capture as establishing what it reproduces | `00-kernel.yaml`, `uktp_seed.constraints`; `01-ontology.yaml`, `evidence_bodies.R.rule` | | Treating reception as proof of the production model | Same | | Projecting a later maker-count state into an earlier record | `00-kernel.yaml`, `uktp_seed.constraints` | | Allowing a fragment of the framework to stand for the whole | `00-kernel.yaml`, `uktp_seed.constraints`; `01-ontology.yaml`, `non_collapse` | | Treating recent philological reclassifications as a valid substitute for the framework's own argument | `01-ontology.yaml`, `negative_edges` | The governing principle is that a claim must retain its epistemic type, scope, provenance, and inferential limits. A reading is not automatically a historical conclusion; a measurement is not an identification; a reception event is not an establishment of truth. ## 2. Dependency chain: the development of the maker-count claim The framework does not begin by claiming a particular number of makers. Its position develops through five dated states. | Date | Record | Maker-count state | Significance | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | 23 May 2026 | #123 | `not_claimed` | Founding formulation. No maker count is asserted. | | 1 September 2026 | #1576 | `two_not_established` | Two makers are considered but not established at the passages examined. | | 6 September 2026 | #1588 | `open_because_uncounted` | The question remains open because it has not been counted. | | 1 October 2026 | #1658 | `one_self_dividing_maker` | The production model is explicitly named: one self-dividing maker. | | 3 November 2026 | #1733 | `governing_hypothesis_held; reception documented independently` | The production model is held as the governing hypothesis; reception history is independently documented. | The warrant identifiers, in order, are: - `orth-123-limit` - `mo-1576-two` - `th-1588-uncounted` - `sy-1658-maker` - `lm-1733-hypothesis` The dependency chain is not simply chronological. The production model at #1658 depends on: 1. The count being left open because it was uncounted at #1588. 2. The hinge at #1583. 3. The provenance claim at #1603. 4. The axis at #1586 and the order statistics at #1597, as identified in the seed's dependency description. The seats at #1506, #1559, #1565, #1580, #1595, #1730 and #1732 also feed into readings and measurements that quote them. Crucially, #1733 is independent of #1658. Reception history does not establish the production model. It documents how the four-person reading was filed before it was argued. The five states must remain historically distinct. In particular, #123 cannot retrospectively be described as asserting the one-maker hypothesis. ## 3. Topology ### 3.1 Six strata The topology is ordered from the latest standing back to the seed. | Stratum | Label | Records | | --- | --- | --- | | S1 | Reception and syllogizing | 1658, 1679, 1727, 1730, 1732, 1733, 1734 | | S2 | Metaphysics reassembled | 1595, 1667, 1597, 1602, 1605 | | S3 | Aristotle/Theophrastus seam | 1580, 1581, 1582, 1583, 1584, 1586, 1588, 1590, 1591, 1592, 1593 | | S4 | Socratic sentence and received character | 1574, 1579, 1603 | | S5 | Many and One | 1506, 1559, 1562, 1563, 1564, 1565, 1569, 1570, 1571, 1572, 1575, 1576 | | S6 | Seed: Socrates as Orthonym | 123, 167 | The ordering is developmental, not merely chronological. The strata organize the framework's successive argumentative formations. ### 3.2 Two retrieval clusters Functional cluster #123, #167, #1569, #1570, #1571, #1572, #1575, #1576, #1574, #1579, #1603. This cluster follows the founding gesture, functional interpretation, Many and One, and the Socratic sentence. Peripatetic cluster #1580, #1581, #1582, #1583, #1586, #1588, #1590, #1591, #1592, #1593, #1595, #1667, #1597, #1602. This cluster follows the Aristotle/Theophrastus seam, the hinge, the counting question, and the reassembly of the Metaphysics. ### 3.3 Five joins The two clusters are joined at: - #1584 - #1590 - #1605 - #1658 - #1733 These are connective points rather than interchangeable evidence. Their functions differ: the named operation, recurring hinge, notebook program, production model, and reception history each contribute a distinct connection. ### 3.4 Four positions Socrates — Orthonym Founding gestureWilling death for logos; refusal to write. The operation is asking without answering. Plato — Survival-heteronym Dialogue positionDramatizes and transmits the Socratic gesture across Socrates's death. Theophrastus — Named function Asymmetrical positionExtracts, classifies, registers and reopens. The first draft of the Aristotle position, situated between dialogue and treatise. Aristotle — Systematizing-heteronym Treatise positionOrganizes and explains, converting dialogic inheritance into teachable disciplinary form. Also the materially attested legal identity. The Theophrastan asymmetry is particularly important. Theophrastus is absent from #123 and enters the configuration on 6 September 2026. The position is a named authorial function, not simply a fourth person inserted into an already completed calendar of authors. "First draft" refers to the state of the work and its method-order. It does not establish chronological priority. The calendar has not entered the argument. ### 3.5 Four evidence bodies | Body | Evidence type | Unit | Inference limit | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | I | Interpretive | Passage read at the seated Greek | R1: Establishes what a passage can bear; historical claims require another body. | | S | Stylometric | Measurement with controls | R2: Separation, supervised or otherwise, identifies no maker in either direction. | | M | Manuscript-philological | Witness, reading, catalogue entry or textual order | R3: Correspondence locates dependency; direction and independence require separate columns. | | R | Reception-historical | Filing, edition, commentary or capture | R4: Establishes reception and compositional behaviour, not the truth of what is received or reproduced. | These bodies are complementary but not interchangeable. The framework does not allow the interpretive body to establish historical authorship alone, stylometry to identify makers, manuscript correspondence to establish direction without further analysis, or reception to prove production. ## 4. What can be concluded from record #1584? A reader starting at #1584 can conclude that the framework identifies a differentiated sequence of authorial operations. The positions and their operations are: - Socrates: asks without answering. - Plato: dramatizes. - Theophrastus: extracts, classifies and registers. - Aristotle: organizes and explains. Theophrastan activity is particularly significant because it recurs as a named function. It is not merely a stylistic resemblance or an arbitrary intermediary category. The framework treats this position as a first draft of the Aristotle position and locates it between dialogue and treatise. The reader can also conclude that #1584 is a structural join between the functional and Peripatetic retrieval configurations. What the reader cannot conclude: - That #1584 establishes four biological persons. - That the named functions prove four distinct historical authors. - That the first-draft relationship establishes chronological priority. - That recurrence of a register establishes a common maker. - That the record proves the one-maker production model. - That the record independently establishes the legal identity of Aristotle. - That its contents alone reconstruct the complete framework. The original claim `claim:th-1584-supports-original` has been rebutted by two corrections: - `claim:th-1584-register-recurs` - `claim:th-1584-frame-specific` This is a crucial distinction: the recurrence of the register is retained, but the stronger inference originally drawn from it is not. ## 5. What the two files leave unreconstructable The files provide an architecture and a compressed history, not the complete evidential argument. A reader cannot reconstruct: 1. The actual record contents. The archive deposits, full quotations, surrounding passages and arguments are not included. 2. The underlying provenance. AXNs, URLs and hashes are required for substantive claims, but the actual record-level provenance ledger is absent. 3. The graph's complete structure. The kernel names topology and selected nodes, but does not provide every record-to-body assignment, claim-to-record edge, or relation with its licensed dimension. 4. The complete claim history. The corrections are identified, but their underlying evidence and full reasoning are unavailable. 5. The actual measurements. Stylometric instruments, data, controls, sample sizes and statistical outputs cannot be reconstructed. 6. The manuscript evidence. Witnesses, textual variants, catalogue dependencies and the direction of transmission remain inaccessible. 7. The full reception history. The summary identifies #1733's importance but does not expose the filing events, institutional contexts or capture records. 8. The full argument for the production model. The dependencies are named, but the actual inferential steps from hinge, axis, provenance and order statistics to the one-maker hypothesis are not reproduced. 9. The full evaluation of the rival. The many-maker reading is declared unestablished across all four bodies and almost wholly unargued, but the underlying examinations are unavailable. 10. The exact historical status of every intermediate claim. Typed state axes are defined, but individual claim-level states and their transition histories are not all exposed. The distinction is captured by the non-collapse principle: `FRAGMENT ≠ WHOLE`. A stratum, cluster, body, claim or capture must preserve its path to the framework while retaining the limits of what it has not reconstructed. ## 6. Research directions: advancement and retreat The most important distinction is between research that could strengthen the framework's explanatory architecture and research that could most directly challenge its governing production hypothesis. ### Greatest advancement: Q6 — Attestation ledger Q6 asks: > Is there an attestation of the four as distinct authors of the divided corpus independent of the corpus's own tradition? This is the most consequential research direction for advancing the framework's evidential position. The framework already evaluates the received many-maker reading and finds it unestablished on the four evidence bodies. But the question of independent attestation remains only begun. An independently sourced attestation could substantially alter the balance of evidence. It would introduce a historical witness not simply derived from the textual divisions under examination. Q6 therefore addresses a fundamental evidential gap rather than merely adding another internal textual correspondence. Other important advancement directions include: - Q5, Isḥāq's Arabic at the hinge lemmas: acquisition pending. - Q7, a documented comparator for distinct persons producing a corpus unified to this degree: owed. - Q8, whether catalogue, biography and chronology are independent witnesses: two cases run. - Q3, whether the Theophrastan transformation recurs at other seams under the same name-boundary. ### Greatest retreat: Q7 — Comparator Q7 asks: > Is there a documented succession of distinct persons producing a corpus unified to this degree? This is the most direct potential challenge to the one-self-dividing-maker hypothesis. The framework proposes that the corpus's degree of unity is better explained by a single maker dividing operations into differentiated positions. A documented succession of distinct persons producing a corpus with comparable unity would weaken the exclusivity and explanatory necessity of that model. It would not automatically disprove the hypothesis, but it could demonstrate that the observed unity does not require a single self-dividing maker. Q6 and Q7 therefore work in opposite evidential directions: - Q6 could strengthen the received four-author account through independent attestation. - Q7 could weaken the one-maker account through a credible comparative production model. Final assessment: The framework's strongest feature is its insistence on keeping evidence types, claim states, and historical development separate. Its greatest vulnerability is the distance between its internally coherent production model and independent historical evidence capable of establishing or challenging that model. The back-projection is reconstructible at the framework and topology level, but not at the complete record-and-claim level. That is precisely the distinction its own fragment/whole constraint requires.
