A platform permitted to route readers toward a source is not necessarily trusted to determine the source’s identity, version, status, or meaning.\n\nThe Airlock’s central principle is **non-collapse**: hosting must not collapse into authorship, visibility into canonicity, retrieval into governance, or continuity into sovereignty. The specification therefore assigns **permitted roles**, **not-permitted roles**, **required capacities**, and a **return-path requirement**. Every tether must point back to an upstream anchor, and every derivative surface must remain capable of disclosing what it is relative to the source. The document also allows movement between tiers: a surface may earn greater trust through sustained provenance discipline, durable resolution, demonstrated bearing-cost, and reliable return paths.
