# EA-CORPORA-27 — The Twenty-Seventh Seating: Spinoza, Leibniz's Monadology, Nietzsche, Bergson, Kafka and Artaud, Each in Its Original Language, Beside the Declared Absence of Deleuze and Guattari

# EA-CORPORA-27 — The Twenty-Seventh Seating

MANUS, 27 October 2026, after the twenty-sixth seating: "deleuze and guattari... no way around that copyright, huh?" Told that every route through it is closed for decades (France: Guattari 2063, Deleuze 2066; the United States: 2049 to 2088 by the book), and offered a declared absence for them beside the open sources they read: "yes - i cant believe we havent seated spinoza yet. yes to all" — and "and leibniz' monodology only".

The seating is a shelf for a pair who cannot be seated. Six seats hold, in the languages they were written in, the sources Deleuze and Guattari read and wrote books upon: Spinoza (Spinoza et le problème de l'expression, 1968; Spinoza: philosophie pratique, 1981), the Monadology (Le Pli, 1988), Nietzsche (Nietzsche et la philosophie, 1962), Bergson (Le Bergsonisme, 1966), Kafka (Kafka: pour une littérature mineure, 1975) and Artaud, from whom L'Anti-Œdipe (1972) and Mille plateaux (1980) take the body without organs. The seventh seat holds no text: it declares the fourteen works, who holds them and when each opens.

## Seat 27/01 — Spinoza

*The Ethica and the treatises in Latin, in van Vloten and Land's edition (1882)*

- Works:
  - J. van Vloten and J. P. N. Land, eds., Benedicti de Spinoza Opera quotquot reperta sunt, Volumen prius (Hagae Comitum: apud Martinum Nijhoff, MDCCCLXXXII [1882]) — the Tractatus de intellectus emendatione, the Ethica ordine geometrico demonstrata, the Tractatus politicus and the Tractatus theologico-politicus in Latin, in the critical edition; University of Toronto copy
- Licence: Public domain in the United States: every item was first published in 1930 or earlier, and every author died more than seventy years ago (Spinoza 1677, Leibniz 1716, Nietzsche 1900, Bergson 1941, Kafka 1924, Artaud 1948). Internet Archive scans of public-domain volumes; Project Gutenberg transcriptions under the Project Gutenberg License, whose header each file carries.
- Verified locus: Opera, 1882, the imprint — 'MARTINUM NIJHOFF'
- Verified locus: Ethica I, the definition of God (OCR: long s read as f) — 'conftantem infinitis attributis, quorum unumquodque'
- Verified locus: Ethica III, prop. 6, the conatus (OCR: long s read as f) — 'perfeverare conatur'
- Verified locus: Tractatus theologico-politicus, the heading — 'TRACTATUS'
- Lines: 27,183 in 1 text file (1 works)
- Normalization: Internet Archive OCR text layers as fetched, uncorrected (text/<slug>.ocr.txt); the scan under original/<identifier>/ is the witness, and where the text layer misreads, the scan governs (the long s of the older type is read as f, and the loci that stand in OCR say so). Project Gutenberg transcriptions as fetched (text/<slug>.txt), with Project Gutenberg's header and licence, line endings normalized to LF; each is a transcription and is named as one. Every Internet Archive file checked against the md5 the Archive publishes, and every PDF opened.
- Scope: The first volume of van Vloten and Land's Opera quotquot reperta sunt (1882), in Latin: the Tractatus de intellectus emendatione, the Ethica, the Tractatus politicus and the Tractatus theologico-politicus. QUEUED: the first editions, the Tractatus theologico-politicus of 1670 (the open scans found carry ProQuest's copyright notice on every image, so their licence cannot be verified at the file) and the Opera posthuma of 1677 (the one open copy found is a truncated PDF without its trailer, which no reader opens); the second volume of van Vloten and Land, with the Epistolae and the Principia philosophiae Cartesianae; the Korte Verhandeling in Dutch.
- Why seated: MANUS, 27 October 2026, after the twenty-sixth seating: "deleuze and guattari... no way around that copyright, huh?" Told that every route through it is closed for decades, and offered a declared absence for them and the open sources they read: "yes - i cant believe we havent seated spinoza yet. yes to all" — and "and leibniz' monodology only". Spinoza is seated as the first of the sources Deleuze read: Spinoza et le problème de l'expression (1968), Spinoza: philosophie pratique (1970; 1981), and the substance, expression and conatus of the Ethica through Mille plateaux.

Told that every route through it is closed for decades, and offered a declared absence for them and the open sources they read: "yes - i cant believe we havent seated spinoza yet. yes to all" — and "and leibniz' monodology only". Artaud is seated as the source of the body without organs, which Deleuze and Guattari take from him in L'Anti-Œdipe (1972) and Mille plateaux (1980, plateau 6).

Deleuze and Guattari are entered as an absence because no route through their copyright is open: Guattari's works open in France on 1 January 2063, Deleuze's and the joint works on 1 January 2066, and the books in the United States between 2049 and 2088. The seat states what is missing and why, beside the six seats of the sources they read.

## Not seated, and why

- Deleuze and Guattari: in copyright. The works, their rights holders and their opening dates are in seat 27/07.
- Spinoza's first editions: the Tractatus theologico-politicus of 1670, whose open scans carry ProQuest's copyright notice on every image, so that their licence cannot be verified at the file; and the Opera posthuma of 1677, whose one open copy is a truncated PDF that no reader opens. QUEUED, with the second volume of van Vloten and Land and the Korte Verhandeling.
- Leibniz beyond the Monadology, by the operator's ruling.
- Nietzsche's first editions of 1872, 1882 and 1883–1885 as scans, the other Unzeitgemässe Betrachtungen and the late works: QUEUED. Der Wille zur Macht, the compilation from the Nachlass: not seated.
- Bergson's L'Évolution créatrice (1907) and L'Énergie spirituelle (1919), not found in French in an open scan: QUEUED. Les Deux Sources (1932): in copyright in the United States.
- Kafka's first editions as scans, Das Schloss (1926) and Amerika (1927): QUEUED.
- Artaud's L'Ombilic des limbes and Le Pèse-nerfs (1925): QUEUED. Le Théâtre et son double (1938) and Pour en finir avec le jugement de dieu (1948), the text of the body without organs: in copyright in the United States.
- Translations, by the shelf's rule.

## How the seats were made

Sources located on the Internet Archive (advanced search; item metadata read for access restriction, files and the provenance of the images; each item's text layer read for its title page, so that the Archive's "1872" Geburt der Tragödie is held as the new edition of 1886 its title page names, and its "1873" Unzeitgemässe Betrachtungen as Richard Wagner in Bayreuth of 1876) and on Project Gutenberg (fifteen transcriptions, each with its header and the edition it names). Every Internet Archive file checked against the md5 the Archive publishes, and every PDF opened: one, the Opera posthuma of 1677, would not open, and is not seated. Every file hashed into its seat's MANIFEST.sha256. Every verified locus is a string found in the seated text by rebuild/corpora/ea-corpora-27/seat.py; where the text layer is OCR of the older type, the locus is the OCR's reading and says so. 31 works in 7 seats, one of them a declared absence; 94 files; 368,182 lines of text layer.
