The preface is one paragraph: the Berlin Academy's plan, on Schleiermacher's initiative, to raise Aristotle 'from long neglect', the more than three years (plus quam triennium) Bekker and Brandis spent in the libraries of Italy, France and Britain, the division of labour between text and scholia, and the sigla. It says nothing of genuineness, order or authorship. The pagination this volume set (the Bekker numbers) is the one every later citation of Aristotle uses, Theophrastus's works not among them.",
