"THE NAME PROBLEM AT ITS GRAIN. 'Resolves Name Ambiguity: It stops confusion between researchers who share identical or similar names, or when names change over time.' The saved Wikipedia article gives the same problem in more parts: names 'are not unique, they can change ( such as with marriage ), have cultural differences in name order, contain inconsistent use of first-name abbreviations and employ different writing systems'. How an ORCID record holds a published name, a pseudonym or other names is the question the census row leaves open (ORCID's support page was refused, http 403), and the composition does not touch it: 'a single portable profile' is its only figure for the person behind the names.",
"THE HOLDER IN A CARD ONLY. The answer names no one who runs the registry. The Springer Nature card says 'ORCID is a non-profit organisation providing researchers with a unique digital identifier', folding the identifier into the organization; the article separates them: 'ORCID, Inc. was incorporated as an independent nonprofit organization in August 2010 in Delaware, United States of America, with an international board of directors.' No date appears, neither the 2009 announcement nor the registry launch of 16 October 2012, and no count (the article: '1258 member organizations and 14,727,479 live accounts', as of 2 August 2022).",
"THE FORMAT AND ITS EXAMPLE. 'Rendered as a URL, such as `https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1825-0097`.' The article gives that iD as 'the ORCID ID for Josiah S. Carberry (a fictitious professor used in examples and testing)'; the composition reproduces the example and drops its gloss. '16-digit' (the answer and the Stanford card) is close to the article, which says 'Both ORCID and ISNI use 16-character identifiers' and that the final character 'may also be a letter \"X\"'.",
"ISNI NOT CARRIED. The article: 'ORCID IDs are a subset of the International Standard Name Identifier (ISNI),' and 'It is therefore possible for a person to legitimately have both an ISNI and an ORCID ID [ 35 ] [ 36 ] – effectively, two ISNIs.' The composition places ORCID among publishers and funders (NIH, eRA Commons) and names no other identifier system, so the double identity the census reads as the identity-infrastructure case is absent."
